The Mediterranean architectural style was all the rage in early 2000. Arienza Architects’ first housing projects were Mediterranean-inspired homes.
The Mediterranean style is characterized by simple and romantic aesthetics that originate from Southern European countries surrounding the Mediterranean.
The Architects updated the style by incorporating a “modern twist” to the traditional characteristics of Mediterranean homes such as clay tile roof, stucco walls (white or earth colors), ornate archways (lanai, porch, pergola), wrought iron balconies, window grilles and decorations. Some of these design elements were either eliminated outright or substituted by local decorations. The Architect focused instead on essential characteristics such as large symmetrical facades, indoor-outdoor living, spacious, open floor plans, along with Spanish and Italian influences, which are all evident in these homes.
